The word "zoeira", from Brazilian Portuguese

The informal Brazilian Portuguese word or slang "zoeira" (noun) is used when somebody wants to kid with others. The verb is "zoar". In this picture we can see Einstein saying something like: "Waiting for the jokes begin" and this picture is used to indicate you are waiting for funny coments about a post on Facebook. Brazilians are always joking or kidding.

Tips on learning Portuguese - part 1

In a Portuguese-speaking country:

1. Be careful when giving compliments. The word esquisito means strange, not exquisite. For this purpose you can use the word belo or primoroso.

2. Don't worry if a friend tells you that he/she’s with a constipação. It means he/she’s feeling cold, not constipated. Fot this purpose we have prisão de ventre.

3. If someone says he/she wants to assistir your presentation, it means he will observe it, not assist you. For this purpose, we have the verb auxiliar or ajudar. 

4. If you are  leaving the room, remember that puxe (pronounced “poosh”) means to pull, not to push. To push means empurre.

Porque sim!

Um determinado comercial de TV de uma determinada cerveja tem causado opiniões diferentes, já que se usa como resposta para várias perguntas o "porque sim". Opiniões sobre o uso de "porque sim" divergem porque algumas pessoas, como eu, não gostam desse tipo de resposta, pouco informativa. :)
Mas enfim, aproveitando o gancho da propaganda, acho interessante lembrar que "porque sim" em inglês não tem um equivalente de uso literal no inglês, que seria because yes, mas sim usamos just because. 
Inclusive just because pode ser usado como "porque não também". Confira os exemplos:

Robert: - Why do you like the color blue so much? (Por que você gosta tanto da cor azul?)
July: - Just because. (Porque sim.)
or
Ann: - Why don't you go to school every day? (Por que você não vai à escola todos os dias?)
Peter: - Just because. (Porque não.)

Agora, convenhamos, usar "porque sim" ou just because o tempo todo não é exatamente uma boa opção. Meus alunos estão, a partir desse momento, proibidos de utilizar essa resposta! hahaha
