Challenge about an expression

Hi everybody!
Are you having a good week? I hope so.
This challenge is about an expression and I want to know two things:
- What does "apple of my eye" mean?
- Do we have a similar expression in our language? If so, what is it?
I wish you all a great week!

  2. "Apple of my eye" means “menina dos olhos”.

Its original meaning comes from the idea that the pupil of the eye resembles an apple, then it is called the "apple of the eye" by many people. If we think that the view is generally regarded as one of our most vital senses, begins to make sense to use "apple of my eye" as a metaphor for what is most precious to us.

We have the same expression in Portuguese referring to the “menina dos olhos de Deus”. It is to be protected by God.
